2014 - PhD Chemistry, University of Leeds
2010 - MChem, BSc Medicinal Chemistry, University of Leeds
Dr Murray, a Carslile native, underwent both his undergraduate and doctorate studies in medicinal chemistry at the University of Leeds. After completing his PhD, he moved to Newcastle University and worked as a postdoc on mass spectrometry-based proteomics. In 2016 he moved to the Republic of Korea where he is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) Center for Self-assembly and Complexity, working on new materials for biochemical applications.
Since 2014, Dr Murray has published 18 papers (4 as first author) in journals such as Chemical Society Reviews, Angewandte Chemie, Nature Communications and Accounts of Chemical Research. He has also co-authored a textbook on “cucurbiturils,” a class of supramolecular host molecules.
As the only native English speaker in the lab at IBS, he edited manuscripts, presentations, press releases and other scientific documents. Outside of the writing and editing work he contributed to his current publications, his editing and/or proofreading work was acknowledged on 5 additional papers. He joined Edanz Group as an editor in 2018.
